Estate planning, trust administration, and probate. Since 1987.

About the firm

Good estate work requires knowing the family, not just the paperwork.
William Holloway Founding principle, 1987

Holloway & Finch is a small firm in downtown Birmingham. We have practiced estate law in Michigan since 1987, and we have done it the same way the whole time — quietly, by referral, with families we come to know well. Most of our clients have been with us for fifteen or twenty years.

We do not advertise. We do not chase cases. We work for clients who came to us because someone they trust said we would do right by them, and we keep that trust by doing right by them.

Practice

Three areas of practice, and a few we handle alongside them.

  1. Estate planning & wills

Wills, revocable trusts, durable powers of attorney, and the quieter conversations that surround them. We draft for the specific family, not the generic estate. Most plans we write are for clients we have known for years; many we revise as families change.

  2. Trust administration

Settling and administering trusts after a death, and counseling trustees through their fiduciary duties. The work that begins when the document stops being theoretical. We act as counsel to trustees and, when appropriate, as trustee.

  3. Probate & estate settlement

Representing personal representatives through Michigan probate. Inventory, creditor claims, accounting, distribution, and the court appearances when they are needed. Most of our probate work is for clients whose estate plans we wrote.

The firm

Founded 1987.

Holloway & Finch was founded in 1987 by William Holloway, after fifteen years practicing estate law at a larger Detroit firm. The principle then is the principle now: good estate work requires knowing the family, not just the paperwork. The firm took on its first clients by referral, and four decades on, that is still how it grows.

Rachel Finch joined the firm in 2004 and became partner in 2008. Daniel Park joined as an associate in 2019; Sarah Reinhardt followed in 2022. The four attorneys are supported by Kim Meyer, who has handled the firm's operations since 2011.

The firm is in its current offices on Old Woodward in downtown Birmingham, a few blocks from where it began. Many of the families we work for have been clients across two and three generations. We do not measure the firm in case counts. We measure it in the families who have asked us to come back.
